Pet Blood Testing

Blood tests are performed for a variety of purposes, including routine screening, disease and illness monitoring, and condition diagnosis.

Ramsgate Veterinary Hospital has a fully equipped in-house lab that can run:

Complete Blood Counts
Full Biochemistry Panels
Thyroid Levels
Electrolyte Levels
Pancreatitis
Felv/FIV
Heartworm

Once we get the blood sample from your pet that we require, the testing can be started right away, and we can have the findings back in 30 minutes. This enables quick detection and treatment of a condition when your pet first exhibits symptoms of illness.

We advise blood screenings for all pets, not just sick ones. Prior to putting pets under general anaesthesia, we also strongly advise that they receive a screen. We may advise performing a Pre-Surgical profile on your pet, which is a “mini” blood test that analyses the organs that frequently metabolise drugs (such as the liver and kidneys) as well as glucose and protein levels to make sure the body is healthy enough to endure anaesthesia.

If your pets reach a more advanced age, we additionally advise yearly screening to attempt and detect any early organ changes that may not be seen on the yearly exam. Without a blood or urine test, it is impossible to detect conditions like kidney and liver deterioration early.
