Know Before You Go: Wildlife Protection Areas in the Georges River Area in 2026
Georges River Council has declared 19 bushland reserves as Wildlife Protection Areas for 2026— and the rules for pet owners are stricter than many locals realise. If you walk your dog at Carss Bush Park, Gannons Park, or H.V. Evatt Park, or if your cat roams near any of these reserves, this applies to you.

The Rules Are Simple
Cats:
- Cats are entirely prohibited from all 19 Wildlife Protection Areas
- This includes cats that roam from nearby homes — the policy applies to all cat and dog owners within the LGA, particularly those who live within 1km of a declared Wildlife Protection Area
- Council rangers can seize and remove cats found in these areas
Dogs:
- Dogs must be on a leash at all times and are only permitted on formed tracks, pathways, and roads — not in the bushland itself
- Off-leash dogs can also be seized by rangers
- Fines apply
