A dog from Kogarah smiling while sitting on the table at Ramsgate Vet

Pet owners in Kogarah know the rhythm: the morning dog walk around Carss Park before work, the weekend trips to Oatley Bay with a terrier who can't resist the water, the cat who's claimed the window ledge overlooking Gray Street. When something's not right, it's usually obvious. The dog who normally pulls you down the street suddenly lags behind. The cat stops grooming. They're off their food, or they're drinking more, or they're just not themselves. Ramsgate Veterinary Hospital is 2.8km south of Kogarah, about 10 minutes by car or a quick bus ride down Rocky Point Road.

There's been a vet practice at 231 Rocky Point Rd for decades. The current team took over the site and has been building it into a full-service clinic with in-house diagnostics, surgical capabilities, and the sort of continuity you don't get from seeing a different vet every time.

Why Kogarah pet owners prefers us

  • Same vet every visit

Book with the same vet who saw your pet last time. They already know your dog's arthritis history, your cat's food sensitivities, and what worked last time. You're not starting from scratch every visit explaining the backstory. Continuity like this isn't a luxury when you're managing a chronic condition, it's the baseline.
  • Diagnostic work done on-site

Blood tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds happen here. Results come back the same day. If your vet needs imaging to confirm what's going on, you're not being sent across town for an appointment later in the week. The clinic runs its own lab and radiology suite, which means faster answers and less waiting.
  • Prices on the website before you book

Consults from $98. Vaccinations from $119. Desexing from $180. Dental with X-rays from $670. All pricing is listed on the site. When you call to book, you'll be told the cost before the appointment. If further work is needed during the visit, you'll receive a written estimate before anything proceeds.
  • Open till 7pm on weekdays, weekends too

For Kogarah residents working in the city or finishing late in St George, the clinic's hours accommodate actual schedules. Monday to Friday till 7pm, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Walk-in emergencies are accepted during open hours.
Closing line (italic, small): Mon–Fri 8am–7pm. Sat 10am–4pm. Sun 10am–12pm (emergencies only). Sunday consultations incur a 10% surcharge.

Amazing vets , they saw me straight away, vey helpful and informative, I’ve been looking for a new vet in my area and definitely found one today, so relieved my Jack Russell is in reliable hands, also there fees are also much cheaper than my old vets. Highly recommended these guys for so many reasons, thank you Ramsgate Vets.

We recently moved to the St. George area and have been on a five-year quest to find a vet where our anxious German Shepherd, Mia, feels comfortable. Every vet visit was a stressful experience for all of us – Mia would pull on her leash and try to bolt out the door. That all changed at Ramsgate Vet. Jess, the receptionist, went above and beyond to make Mia feel relaxed and welcome. Her warm interactions with Mia, combined with the excellent consultation by Tiffany, the vet on duty, made a world of difference. For the first time in a long time, Mia was able to stay calmly in the foyer, on a loose leash! Thank you, Jess, for making our usually anxious girl feel relaxed and at ease. Your kindness and professionalism are greatly appreciated. We can't recommend Ramsgate Vet highly enough to anyone looking for an exceptional veterinary experience. They truly exceeded our expectations! Very satisfied, Alf and Mia

Our beautiful little dog was hit by a car last Friday, The team at Ramsgate vet including Jess and Clarence did everything they could for our little boy as soon as he arrived to them. They went over and above to try and help him and save his life. Unfortunately we did end up losing our little one and we are absolutely heartbroken by this sudden loss. The team has continued to offer us all of the support we need during this grieving process. We will be forever grateful for them for doing everything they could. They are a team with heart and they truly care about pets and their owners. Thank you endlessly to the team 🤍

I have recently moved to the area and needed to take my reactive little chihuahua to a new vet. RVH has been the first Vet we've gone to that's pointed out my little dogs heart problems. This team are all angels sent from heaven, I can't thank them enough for treating my boy with urgency and truly going above and beyond. After receiving quite confronting news regarding my dog during my first visit to RVH, these angels have shown nothing but kindness, empathy and compassion to my dog and I. My dogs primary care team has been Nurse Jess and Dr Marnie with v special mention to Dr Tiffany <3

I took a stray injured cat there this morning and they treated both me and the cat with such care, kindness and compassion. They weren’t able to save the kitten but gave me reassurance I had done the right thing. Everyone I spoke to was so friendly and so helpful. I have pets of my own and will very much be taking them to this vet moving forward after today’s interaction. They made a difficult moment much easier to deal with.

The team are friendly, professional and competent. My puppy has visited twice and loves the vets as he gets treats, cuddles and lots of scratches. They prioritise care in a safe and friendly environment for the animals. The reception team are efficient, proactive and super friendly. Everyone here loves animals and it shows.

I would recommend this vet to anyone looking for a place to take your pet your pet would be well taken care of. The staff are helpful and friendly. They also have a clinic in Surry Hills. They are helpful in every way they can be. My dog went for surgery and he was treated with care. They are in contact with you letting you know each step of the way. The facilities are clean and inviting. If you are looking to take your pet somewhere I would highly recommend Ramsgate veterinary hospital.

Understanding the lifestyle of Kogarah pet owners

Kogarah sits between rail, the hospital precinct, and the bay suburbs. Many residents here are young families in townhouses near Kogarah Public, healthcare workers at St George, or professionals commuting into the city. Dogs get walked along Rocky Point Road or around the bay foreshore before 8am. Cats stay indoors in apartments near the station.

The clinic sees a lot of first-time pet owners who've just moved into the area and aren't sure when a limp needs an X-ray or when vomiting can wait until tomorrow. The vets here don't assume you already know the drill. They walk you through what's happening, what the options are, and what it'll cost. For the households managing older dogs with mobility issues or cats with kidney disease, continuity matters. Seeing the same vet means they're tracking trends, not reacting to single data points. They know when something's different because they know what normal looks like for your pet.

Can I see the same vet every time?

Yes. Book with the vet you saw last time. Mention their name when you call, and reception will schedule you with them. Continuity is standard here, not something you have to request.

Do you accept walk-in emergencies from Kogarah?

Yes, during business hours (Mon–Fri 8am–7pm, Sat 10am–4pm, Sun 10am–12pm). Call (02) 9133 1303 first if you can, so the team can triage and prepare before you arrive.

Is it worth coming from Kogarah when there are closer options?

Kogarah residents who make the trip usually mention seeing the same vet consistently, transparent pricing before booking, and not being rushed through appointments. Whether that's worth an extra few kilometres depends on what you're looking for.

Where do I go for after-hours emergencies?

Ramsgate Vet is not a 24/7 hospital. The closest overnight options from Kogarah are SASH Alexandria (~15 minutes by car via the M5) and Sydney University Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Camperdown (~20 minutes). Save both numbers before you need them.
